Christmas Elixer Shots!!!!

healthy elixer shots christmas vegan

As a couple of non drinkers, we can sometimes be left out when people are  celebrating with a group shot.  This year instead of feeling like the black sheep in the corner, and making sure not to attract sympathy, we created our own version of the holiday group shots!  Mixing our favourite superfoods and keeping to the green and red colours of Christmas, Mel and I concocted two flavours of Elixer Shots for our family gathering.

organic banana spirulina chlorella vitamix

First up was the Banana Greens:

  • 2 Banana’s
  • 4 tsp’s of Prairie Naturals Spirulina/Chorella mix
  • 1 tsp of organic Stevia
  • 1L of water

Vitamix them all together and you have a vibrant green mix, sweet enough to have people asking for seconds.

As a complimentary pairing, we made some Savoury Strawberry mix:

  • 3 cups of fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup cranberries
  • 1 tbsp Maca Root
  • 1 tbsp sprouted chia seed powder
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1.5L water

Again blend it thoroughly in Vitamix and its ready to serve.

We want to thank all of our friends and family for taking the leap and trying these “healthy” elixers, AND for their compliments as they came back asking if they could have more!!! Some people have different beliefs, some people eat different foods, but one thing that the holidays can always offer is the chance to reach out to others and bridge the gap.

I’ll bet you didn’t know that your bpa free vitamix is leaching bpa and other nasty chemicals, did you? Yup, sure is. Some friends of mine just tracked down an older stainless steel vitamix and are using that one going forward. They contacted vitamix and requested an independent test. That was back in February. I have requested a similar test from blendtec regarding their containers.

Here is my friend’s video. Her name is Lena and she is also a vegan like I am. Plastic is a major problem and it has now become a vegan problem because our health is being compromised and we are killing the creatures we share this earth with with our neglect.

Here is Lena’s video where she speaks about Vitamix.

The second video I share with you is called Plastic Cow. This shows how this issue has become one for vegans to be concerned with.

Finally, and this is the big one. Plastic Planet.

Your drinks look like fun. I too am a non drinker. I do not buy a lot of fad items either. In fact, I grow my own spirulina. No plastic bag waste there.

Careful not to jump to conclusion too quick, Mel and I recently watched that first video and have had a number of discussions about it with running friends. We definitely appreciate you sharing the info though. In this day and age, nearly everything you do can have negative effects on your health to some degree. We pick our battles and do the best we can while still maintaining an overall enjoyment of life.

Bottom line, our Vitamix has done more good for us than bad, so we will continue to use it until an improved model is developed.

  2. Bravo on your alcohol elixers, and inspiring your friends and other who read your posts!

I agree that it is wise to “battles and do the best we can while still maintaining an overall enjoyment of life.”

“Vitamix has done more good for us than bad, so we will continue to use it until an improved model is developed.”
I bring you good news! (no sarcasm intended) There are already improved models in existence. Waring has both glass (less powerful) and stainless steel (commercial versiona and larger than vitamix) models.

If you ever have any questions about the research we did and are doing about plastic – my wife Lena and I discovered the BPA migrating study and made the above video on leaching BPA and blenders – and better alternatives for ourselves, the animals and our home planet, please feel free to contact either of us.

PS: I started and manage the facebook groups Vegan Inflencers & Debaters and Long Term Vegans – I invite you to join us!
